Our 8th Annual Spring Breakfast Gala, held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Oakville Conference Centre was a huge success!
This year’s event raised a whopping $58,000 in support of Student Nutrition Programs in Halton! At less than $1.00 per healthy breakfast, that feeds a lot of empty tummies! What a great way to celebrate our 20th year of ensuring no student goes hungry at school!
This year’s event featured delicious food from a variety of local restaurants in the Breakfast Marketplace, inspiring stories from Student Nutrition Programs, raffle prizes, draws and a silent auction. We even managed to weave in some of the innovative ways Halton Food for Thought is continuing to ensure our students have access to the healthy food they need to fuel their success by announcing the return of the Great Big Crunch October 26th, 2017, providing gala guests with a sneak peak of (and healthy samples from) one of our New Salad Bar Programs and the unveiling of our Blender Bikes and Blender Bike Video! Such fun! And of course, the Air Canada Foundation free ticket draw was a great hit too!
Thank you to our amazing Gala Sponsors, Restaurant Marketplace Vendors, Silent Auction and Raffle Basket Donors and of course the close to 500 in attendance including special guests Member of Parliament John Oliver, Mariam Yousefi from the office of Member of Parliament Karina Gould, Directors of Education Paula Dawson and Stuart Miller, Superintendents of Education John Pennyfather and Tim Overholt and over a dozen HCDSB and HDSB Trustees representing Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.
Halton food for Thought believes that when given access to healthy food, every student has their best chance at academic success. Dollars raised at this year’s gala help ensure our children and youth are well fed, ready to learn and are acquiring eating habits that will provide a lifetime of good health. Thank you for helping us ensure no student goes hungry at school!
