During a “typical” school year, Halton Food for Thought partners with the Boards of Education, the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the community to deliver Student Nutrition Programs in our schools. These volunteer-led programs provided over 80,000 Halton students access to healthy food at school.
Halton students need access to the nutritious food to fuel a full day of learning. As such, in partnership with the Halton Catholic District School Board and the Halton District School Board HFFT has pivoted to ensure food is still available to students during the school day in accordance with Public Health, safe food handling and Ministry of Education guidelines.
When we feed students at school, we are offering them their best chance for success. We want students to reach their full potential and lead healthy, active lives.
Halton students returning to in-person / in-school learning:
Following enhanced health and safety protocols, we will provide our partner schools with “Grab & Go” snacks. Prepackaged, non-perishable snacks will be available in most classrooms.
Halton students returning to virtual / remote learning:
We are currently piloting community hubs where students can come and get a breakfast or lunch off school property during the school day. More details to follow.
