#GivingTuesdayCa, December 1st, 2020 directly following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, marks the “Opening Day of the Giving Season”.
We would like to thank everyone who this year chose to give the gift of healthy food to a Halton child to fuel a full day of learning!
Still interested in supporting Halton student success – but missed the official “giving season”…. not to worry! These are out students, and they deserve our support, now more than ever.
Students arrive at school hungry for many reasons, leaving them unprepared to focus on a full day of learning. COVID related challenges mean that reliable access to nutritious food for our students is more important than ever.
During a “typical” school year, Halton Food for Thought partners with the Boards of Education, the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the community to deliver Student Nutrition Programs in our schools. These volunteer-led programs provided over 80,000 Halton students access to healthy food at school.
This year is anything but “typical”. As such, in partnership with the Halton Catholic District School Board and the Halton District School Board HFFT has pivoted to ensure food is still available to students during the school day in accordance with Public Health, safe food handling and Ministry of Education guidelines. Following enhanced health and safety protocols, we are providing HFFT partner schools prepackaged, non-perishable snacks via the Grab & Go Healthy Food Box program. We are also currently reviewing plans to incorporate a Healthy Snack Program to support our Virtual Learners! Stay tuned!
When we feed kids at school, or wherever they are learning from, we offer them their best chance for success. We want kids to reach their full potential and lead healthy, active lives. Thank you for your support!
