February 14, 2024

We are half-way through FEEDUARY and today we continue to celebrate our love of Student Nutrition Programs at Aldershot school in Burlington. This morning, we were joined by City and Regional Councillor Kelvin Galbraith, HDSB Trustee Robbie Brydon, Burlington Foundation CEO & President Megan Tregunno and staff from Mini Giants who all got to see the power of this Student Nutrition Program. With the guidance of our volunteer Tracy Peeters, everyone joined in to prepare a Valentine’s Day themed sit-down breakfast for the hungry students which included whole wheat French toast, smoothies, cereal, fresh fruit, and more. Through a sit-down program, students can gather around nutritious food and connect before the school day starts.

Thank you to Aldershot staff, students and volunteers for welcoming the community to your Student Nutrition Program for FEEDUARY and shining a light on the importance of these programs!

There are different ways you can get involved to support our SNPs and Halton students – volunteer for a local program, share content on social media or donate. The 3 Main Ways

What began with food programs at 6 Halton schools in 1997 has now evolved to 130+schools in Halton programs in every Halton school, ensuring that no student in the region goes hungry at school.

Along with our community partners and army of volunteers, we are able to nourish and nurture generations of students. We know that nutrition is essential to their success and that habits established in childhood set the foundation for healthy behaviours in adulthood.

Our work is even more crucial, given that Canada remains one of the few industrialized countries with out a national school food program. As a result, access to proper nutrition is inconsistent and systems rely mainly on ‘patchwork’ solutions.

Donate

Our history isn’t uncommon; a grassroots group of people who identify a problem and come together to form a solution.  In this case, one of the strongest groups you can have behind your cause: Parents. Fast forward to 2007, just ten years later, and HFFT became an incorporated, registered, charity with its own Board of Directors and 63 programs. As of July 2019, HFFT has partner programs in 130 schools, providing more than 79,000 Halton students access to healthy food at school.

In the spring of 2014, we set out to revive the agency. We wanted to realign ourselves with our cause and ensure all of our work was unified toward one goal. Our Mission and Vision are the core of our values and fuel all of our work in the community. In partnership with the community, we feed students healthy food so they can succeed.
