Halton Food for Thought Board Member

Overview

For over 20 years, Halton Food for Thought (HFFT) has been a game-changer, ensuring that students in the Halton region can access healthy, free meals and snacks at school. By collaborating with Boards of Education and the community, we support Student Nutrition Programs for kindergarten to grade 12 students. Feeding students fuels their minds and bodies, setting them up for academic success and lifelong healthy habits. We are looking for a new Board of Directors member to hold the position of Secretary.

About Us

Halton Food for Thought, in partnership with the community, is the sole provider of Student Nutrition Programs in schools across the Halton Region including Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.  We believe that when given access to healthy food at school, every student has the best chance for success.  Our vision is a Halton Region in which “no student goes hungry at school”! We feed thousands of kids healthy food every day!

Responsibility

As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, our board is responsible for acting in the best interests of our organization and the community, making well-informed decisions, with a broader knowledge and an inclusive perspective.

HFFT is looking for someone with a specialized background in Finance and Accounting to fill a seat on our Board of Directors.

Principle Duties

Every member of our Board of Directors is expected to do the following:

• Prepare for and participate in board meetings

• Listen to others’ views, advocate their own, identify common interests and alternatives, and be open to compromise

• Participate in the review of our organization’s mission and objectives and in the development of a strategic plan

• Help the board to monitor the performance of our organization in relation to our mission, objectives, core values and reputation

• Abide by the by-laws, code of conduct, conflict of interest and other polices that apply to the board

• Participate in the approval the annual budget and monitor the financial performance of our organization in relation to the budget

• Support governance decisions once made

• Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for our organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for our organization to advance its mission

Accountablity

The Board of Directors is collectively accountable to the members, community, funders and other stakeholders. They are accountable for our organization’s performance in relation to its mission and strategic objectives, and for the effective stewardship of financial and human resources

Time Commitment

Approximately 6-10 hours per month – which includes attending in-person board meetings held in the Halton Region, preparing for board meetings, participating in committees and attending special events.

Term In Office

Two-year term, with possible renewal.
