Meet Liv, student, athlete and volunteer

Hi!

My name is Liv, and I’ve been volunteering with the breakfast club at school since I was four years old. My Mom let me know March is Nutrition Month and asked if I would share what it means to me to be involved in the breakfast program at my school.

When I was little, I helped hand out food and thought it was fun. Now that I’m older, I actually understand why it matters.

I also use the program myself during the school day. Sometimes I’m still hungry, or I need a bit more food to get through classes. The program helps me with extra snacks, so I’m not distracted or tired.

I play rep soccer, and I usually have practice after school. If I don’t eat enough during the day, I feel it later. I get tired faster and it’s harder to focus. Having access to food at school helps me stay fueled for the whole day.

Some people think school food programs are only for certain students, but they’re really for anyone who needs a little extra. Even active kids need more fuel sometimes.

I’m really glad our school has this program, and I’m proud that I’ve been part of it for so long.

Happy Nutrition Month! 🍎⚽️
