On Sunday, November 30, you are invited to join The Mink Group team and Halton Food for Thought staff for an afternoon skate at The Wave Twin Rinks in Burlington from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.. During the event, guests are asked to donate non-perishable food items or make donationsto support local Burlington schools. Free Santa photos and apres-skate refreshments will be available for those who donate at the event.
Partnerships like these make a real difference in our community andremind us that community spirit, when combined with a shared commitment to helping others, has the power to create lasting impact. Glenview PS, one of the schools who benefitted from last year’s fundraiser, shared about the impact:
A Glenview Perspective: The Impact of ‘Deck the [School] Pantry’
By Chelsea Bristow
Last year, The Mink Group’s Deck the School Pantry wasn’t just an event, it was a whole vibe. Hosted at a local Burlington restaurant and bar, it brought together neighbours, families, and friends for an evening that was festive, joyful, and filled with that kind of community spirit you can actually feel in the room.
As the program lead for the Glenview Breakfast and Snack Program in partnership with Halton Food for Thought, I can tell you firsthand what a difference this generosity made. Thanks to The Mink Group and everyone who donated, our shelves were stocked, our mornings were smoother, and our students started their days nourished and ready to take on the world (or at least, the first bell!).
Student nutrition programs like ours are about so much more than food –they’re about belonging, confidence, and the simple truth that it’s hard to learn when you’re hungry. A good breakfast sets the tone for the whole day, and when it’s shared with care, it’s even better.
We feel so lucky to have been part of this incredible initiative and can’t wait to see it grow in its second year amongst festive tunes, kids gliding (and occasionally wobbling) across the ice, and an entire community coming together to fill school pantries and hearts alike. Here’s to more community, more kindness, and more full cupboards…. because decking the school pantry never goes out of season.
From all of us at Halton Food for Thought, we can’t wait to celebrate with you and The Mink Group on November 30!
