Fueled Minds, Bright Futures: A Reflection on Our School Year

June 16, 2026

As school bells ring to mark the end of another incredible year, we find ourselves looking back with immense gratitude for everything we have accomplished together.

Our mission has always been simple yet vital: to ensure that every student in Halton has the fuel they need to succeed. This year, thanks to the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, school partners, donors, and sponsors, that mission was strengthened across Halton in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, and Oakville.

Together, we achieved some truly remarkable milestones this school year:

  • A Growing Network: We proudly partnered with 163 schools across the Halton region, deepening our roots in the communities we serve.
  • Unprecedented Reach: Over 96,000 students—representing more than 87% of all students in Halton—had reliable, daily access to healthy food.
  • Millions of Meals: Our dedicated teams prepared and served over 4.5 million nutritious meals and snacks, ensuring no students had to learn on an empty stomach.

Beyond the numbers, the true impact of our work lives in the classrooms. It is found in the words of a student volunteer in Milton who shared that “when students’ minds are nourished, they can flourish,” and a Halton Hills principal who reminded us that sharing a snack “builds community, relationships, and safety among and between kids and staff.”

By keeping our programs completely universal and non-stigmatizing, we have created spaces where every single child is welcome to grab a healthy snack, free of charge, ensuring that nutrition is never a barrier to a bright future.

To our incredible volunteers who pack bins every morning, the school staff who champion these programs, and our generous donors who keep our shelves stocked—thank you. You are the driving force behind Halton Food for Thought.

As we head into the summer months, we are already looking ahead to the next school year, energized and ready to continue fueling generations of students to help them reach their full potential.

Wishing you all a safe, happy, and restful summer!
